Historical notions on Psychosynthesis
The Italian Society for Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy – Società Italiana di Psicosintesi Terapeutica – (S.I.P.T.) was founded in Florence (Italy) in December 1973, under the auspices of Roberto Assagioli, the founder of Psychosynthesis, who authorised the birth and the independent life from the original Psychosynthesis institute, delegating to it the field of therapeutic Psychosynthesis itself and, specifically, the area of psychotherapy, which since has been the unique reference point in Italy, in regard to the education of psychotherapeutists in psycho synthetic terms.
Assagioli’s followers: physicians, psychiatrists and clinical psychologists, were the founders and first teachers of educational programmes. The purpose of S.I.P.T. since its creation, in addition to psychotherapeutic education, has been to promote studies, research and dissemination of clinical Psychosynthesis and of psycho synthetic psychotherapy, which have found expression in publications, organization of congresses, therapeutic activity and the birth of a Therapeutic Psychosynthesis magazine.
Since 1974, the Italian Society for Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy forms psychotherapists according to the Psychosynthesis view, with major theoretical, methodological and practical developments of psycho synthetic psychotherapy.
In 1994, adhering to governmental criteria for private schools of psychotherapy in Italy, the School of PsychoSynthetic Psychotherapy was created, recognised by the MURST of 29.09.1994. It is managed by S.I.P.T. and is based on an essential educational cooperation agreement with the Institute of Psychosynthesis, which has joined the academic body of the School, taking care of the formation of basic Psychosynthesis through its 13 centres in various Italian cities.
The School has a four-year programme, proposed at the beginning of each year, aimed at graduates in psychology and medicine, and a Director and a Council of Teachers that govern the proper conduct.
Since 1996, S.I.P.T. organises basic and professional Psycho Synthetic Counselling School for therapists and social-health workers.
